Nutrition Services

The Central Union High School District participates in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs which are federally funded programs that assist schools and other agencies in providing nutritious meals to children at reasonable prices. In addition to financial assistance, these programs provide donated commodity foods to help reduce meal program costs. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is responsible for overseeing these programs nationally. In California, the programs are administered by the California Department of Education (CDE), Nutrition Services Division.

What are the benefits of participating in these programs? For children, the National School Lunch Program provides nutritious meals that contains one-third of the recommended dietary allowance of necessary nutrients. For parents, these programs offer a convenient method of providing nutritionally balanced meals at the lowest possible price. For schools, these programs enhance children's learning abilities by contributing to their physical and mental well being. Studies have shown that children whose nutritional needs are met have fewer attendance and discipline problems and are more attentive in class.
